Health Policy in Israel - Did you know?
|
Life expectancy for women in Israel ranks lower than in some 19 other western societies; life expectancy for Israeli men is among the highest in the world.
Women in Israel are less likely than men to be admitted to Intensive Care Units after a heart attack; less likely to be referred to rehabilitation; and 50% less likely to survive the attack.
Israel National Health Insurance Law provides a broad range of hospital and ambulatory services, including unlimited fertility treatments for up to two children, at an annual cost of over $30,000,000.
Excluded from the basic basket of health care are many preventative services and screening tests, contraception and abortion (for reasons other than health risks to the fetus or mother).
A survey conducted by the JDC-Brookdale Institute shows that low income, Arab and immigrant women get less health information, have less access to health services and are sicker than other women in Israel.
