Multi-Media system for coping with Postpartum Depression
|
In 2006, IAAWH will developes a multi-media, interactive system for coping with postpartum depression. The target population for this project will be women pregnant with their first child. A particular effort will be made to reach ultra-orthodox women and new immigrants from the Former Soviet Union, who are at particular risk for PPD. The project was developed in response to the number of women who suffer from PPD (10-28%, according to national and international data) and the silence in Israel surrounding mental health problems. Women suffering from PPD are often hesitant to raise the subject with their doctors, leaving them to cope on their own. In response, IAAWH will produce and distribute a comprehensive, informational CD for new mothers to help identify and cope with PPD. The CD will be distributed to 10,000 women. The IAAWH expects to mobilize all of the Israeli health services for this purpose, thus raising awareness and breaking the silence among health consumers and providers alike.
